It is with the deepest sorrow the BCB mourns the passing away of Mohammed Zillur Rahman, Hon’ble President of People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The President breathed his last in Singapore earlier today while undergoing treatment there (Wednesday).

On this sad occasion the Board recalls President Zillur Rahman’s long and distinguished career as a national leader.

The Board extends deepest sympathies to his son Nazmul Hasan, MP, President of Bangladesh Cricket Board and other family members and prays for the salvation of the departed soul.

Bangladesh National Team Captain Mushfiqur Rahim said from Colombo, where the side is currently in the middle of a series against Sri Lanka: “We are all shocked and saddened at the death of the Hon’ble President. Our thoughts are with his family at this hour of bereavement.  His interest and passion for the game of cricket was evident from his presence at Bangladesh’s matches and the Bangladesh Premier League T20 which he inaugurated on both occasions.”

The Bangladesh flag and the BCB flag will fly at half mast during the three-day national mourning period. The Bangladesh Team will wear black arm bands as a mark of respect to President Zillur Rahman during the first one day international against Sri Lanka at Hambantota on 23 March.
